border run
Hailing from the great State of Colorado (go Avs!), I have lived in Alberta (go Flames!) for many moons: however many moons there are in 5 years and 2 months. I have resided here under various temporary legal statuses, first as a student and then as a worker. All this comes to an end tonight, when I will make a cannonball run to the border to present my final documents along with the permanent resident visa stamped into my passport, and either return to Canada an immigrant, or become an unintentional resident of Montana, which is how I assume they get a large part of their population. Once Regent professor Eugene Peterson tried this years ago, and has been a Montana retiree ever since. If you pray, please do pray for me. If you don’t pray, you should pray, so please do pray for me. This is an important step for my family and I. We trust that the God who brought all of Israel across the Egyptian border can get me back over this one.
If you’re up for a 4:00 pm roadtrip, a stamp in your passport, and the magic that is Coutts fading into Sweetgrass, let me know, ’cause I wouldn’t mind some company on the drive.

Nick, I prayed and will be praying for you today! That is the same location we crossed coming to and going from Alberta. I have faith that He will work things out. He is able! Blessings to you brother!
Thanks Mike!
Wow, that sounds a little scary. I hope you make it! I’ll talk to my people, see what they can do.
Does this mean you will be able to work in Canada?
I apologize. As soon as I clicked ‘Submit Comment’ part of my brain lit up. When I asked “Does this mean you will be able to work in Canada?” it was not my intention to imply that ministry is not work. I simply meant to ask if you would no longer have restrictions on your employment. I hope I did not offend.
Thomas.
No worries man. Yeah, the plan is to get a “real job” on the side.
University ministry will remain my focus, but having another avenue to make some $ will be a big help.
I accidentally went to Canada during the yearlong road trip, but things went smoothly.
If I lived up there, of course I would be up for taking the road trip. Hope it’s been good so far…
You ought to come back on purpose sometime.
Oh Canada, how I’d love to. I thought I might get to skirt from Detroit to Chicago and then down to NY on this trip, but alas, no.
But one of these days, hopefully another road trip will take me up there! And in the meantime, if you hear of anybody who needs some on-site college ministry consultation from an American, let me know.
I’m sure I can use all the help I can get. It’s not needing it so much as affording it that’s the problem. If you ever find yourself north of Montana, look me up and I’ll take you for poutine.
Awesome. I don’t even know what that is, but awesome.
